Are W126 radiators hard to find now?

My brother is looking at an 85 300SD and is wondering if he should pull the radiator which is in really good shape

They use the same rad as the W123 300D Turbo, so no...

...but if it's a really nice rad and it's inexpensive, why not?

[wiseguy] How hard can it be to find if he's looking at one?

A new Nissens replacement is ~$200. Seems readily available.

I think that at least the W126 300SD and W123 300D Turbo share most of their cooling system components -- not so sure about the W116 300SD?

Really on a roll with wisecracks, eh sixto ? Is not having to maintain a 28-year-old MB lightening your mood these days?

W116 300SD has a much different radiator, its all metal unlike the W123 and W126 with plastic tanks. They seem to last longer because of that.

Next question is, would it fit with a 240D?

The 240D has a different rad, but I don't see why this one wouldn't fit... the one thing I can think of is that I believe that the 240D doesn't have an auxiliary coolant reservoir, whereas the 300SD does.

the 240D uses a different oil cooler, doesnt have an expansion tank, and the fan shroud is a different size. you can work around all of those things but 240D radiators are still regularly available.

Reason I asked about the 240D radiator is wanting to beef up cooling for a potential OM616 turbo build

Greater area for heat rejection would be a good idea

Two minutes on google turned up a handfull of new rads for W126/300SD between $150 to $250. Not sure, but I think the firm that bought out Ready Rad is still making them under a couple of logo's.
