Where does this go?

I have a (new to me) 1985 300 Turbo diesel and this was hanging down by the master cylinder. I hope somebody can tell me where it attaches too. The online service manual wasn't much help and I don't have another vehicle to compare it to.
Thanks

Should go between injector pump vacuum shut-off valve and the line back into the ignition switch. This is not factory, but commonly done so that if the vacuum shut-off valve failed and started leaking oil back through the vacuum line, you could spot it and fix the problem before the oil got to the ignition switch and caused trouble there.

Interesting, so in your opinion is it ok to leave or should I return to stock configuration. I will not hold you responsible for your advice, but I do appreciate it. Thanks for your reply.

Hmm... if the lines leading to it are black, it's probably a vent for various vacuum amplifiers in the engine bay. If so, the filter is the last stop before the line continues into the driver footwell where it's left open. That allows the vacuum amplifiers to vent cleaner cabin air. See item 85 in this diagram -

Yes, that's a great schematic and I believe it is #85. I thank you both for helping. I purchased an official service manual in actual book form, but the pictures are terrible, like they were photographed through a screen door. Again thanks.

Were you in Gardner/Minden a few days ago? There was a red 123 going SB (you?) and a ivory 300d (we were passing the guy) and a ivory 240D (us) going NB.

Don`t see many 123`s around here. The town was saturated that day.

Looks like I was wrong! If that is #85 in the diagram, ignore my post, especially if your engine shuts off with the key....
