When did Mercedesshop.com become Peachparts?

Were Join dates carried over? I have had my 300D since 1990 yet site says I only joined here in 2004. Could be correct.

I was on a MB mailing list previously where many dieselheads also belonged (Like Marshall Booth) so maybe I came here after that.

Just wondering.

I think that Mercedes exercised their US trademark rights and so the name had to be changed....
Start date did carry over for me...
but the posts were reduced for many when a couple of people under past rules.... deleted their posts... which , if they were the first in starting a thread, caused the entire thread to go to internet heaven...
TxBill and Larry Bible were two that did that...... and maybe some others...

Yup, a ton of members irritated for whatever reason deleted entire threads resulting in thousands of posts and fantastic informative subjects got deleted. Most of those members got banned for their actions, and the rules of the site got stricter resulting in members Being unable to edit their threads after 24 hours.

Afik, the member's start date and post count otherwise was unchanged.

Ok thanks. I guess I must have first joined mercedesshop.com in 2004.

Actually the domain change happened at a funny time for me. I had been looking at a W123 in January 2009 and had found "this great site" only to not being able to find "that effing site" again by the summer - what was it called again...

charmalu 05-10-2015 02:08 PM

I think the biggest reason for the name change was the sale of parts.

We had Fast Lane and Allpartsexpress as the two places to order parts.
As I understand, this helped to support the Forum.

That and using Mercedes name rubbed them the wrong way.

When it was Mercedesshop.com, it seemed to be a different forum compared to now.

I feel it is totally wrong when someone gets irritated and or banned, to delete all their
Threads and their contribution to the Forum.

Some just fade away and their online name etc... is still there. So if looking for a thread they started and you
remember their name, makes it easier to find the info.

Some delete it and it just says "Guest" where their name was.
There is always Google to search for the info anyway.

How many of you have your "Mercedesshop.com Grill Badges?

Well I am happy I came along after everything got sorted out. I actually was on BW about the same time, but soon developed a distaste for BW. This site is soooooooooooooooooooo much better in my opinion!

I just learned a few things reading this post, vstech! *

Thanks, for the input!

? Pelican Parts ?

There's a lot of open questions here. Like, why is it still PEACHPARTS, if it's actually Pelican Parts signage at the top of every page?

Also, there's any number of business entities named Mercedes-Benz this or that on the Net. They've never changed their names, yet, Mercedes-Benz Shop did? It doesn't add up, based on many other Internet websites.

Just wondering why all the changes and non-changes?

leathermang 05-10-2015 08:59 PM

Pelican Parts sounded like it was a food processing business.....
and Brown Pelicans are an endangered species.....
so it would have been Non PC......

Bill Woods decided to sell the Peachparts Forum, and Wayne Dempsy who owns Pelican Parts which is a Porsch/BMW Forum, bought it. So we are a division of Pelican parts.

Does sound like a food processing company, Pelican Parts, Peach Parts.
Nothing about Auto Parts.

Mercedes Benz now owns the Mercedes Shop Domain name.
