I don't know why there is no pump on the 240s
I always assumed it had to do with the manual climate controls. Maybe the manual valve the 240's use is less of a restriction than the monovalve so it requires less pressure to flow the same amount of water. Just a theory though.

Do I even need an AUX pump? I've fitted a manual climate system from a Euro spec 300TD into my car.

Only you can make that call. Some have removed them and said they could not feel a difference, I on the other hand was cold in my 79 300D until I replaced my bad one which made a HUGE improvement.

I don't know what switches the power to the pump however, does your pump still work with the manual system? If it is working I would keep it, it could only help. Be sure however to add a fuse in for it. There a details of this in the forums and it is VERY important.

I think I'll just delete, I live in So Cal...not much risk of frostbite. ;-)

Fair enough. Keep it on a shelf for later though. You never know.

Here's the Aux pump that this site lists. I'm not even putting it on my wish list.

The "replacement aux pump" in my 84 & 85 300D is a length of 5/8" silicone heater hose. I still get ample heat and noticed no difference. None of my U.S. cars have such a silly device, but perhaps northern Germany is different. The aux pump can clog or stop spinning, thus blocking the flow or leak your coolant on a long trip and ruin the engine. It can also overheat the push-button switch and cause a dash fire. One aux pump was still working fine (no shaft leak yet), but I still pulled it. One W123 guy here installed a cheaper W124 heater control valve (mono-valve) where his aux pump sat, which is another option.

This thread has some info on fusing the Auxillary Water pump.......
and why it should be fused.
