Transmission, shifter and linkage question on engine swap help needed

This is my first time posting on here, but I've found all the info tremendously helpful. So, thanks to all the folks who've helped me already.

I'm swapping an 82 240 D engine and transmission into a 78 240 chassis. The engine from the 78 is totaled but most of the other parts are still in good condition. My question is, can I keep the shifter and master and slave cylinder from the 78 and just use the linkage and transmission from the 82?

I know they have different part numbers, but the direction and placement of the pieces that connect to the shifter seem to be more or less the same.
