Intake leaking oil - turbo?

I recently noticed a small oil leak at the intake end of the crossover pipe. I've been wanting to take the pipe off to see how much coked oil build -up there was. What I found was plenty of crud but instead of being hard and brittle it was more of a sludge. I was able to remove most of it with a putty knife. So I'm assuming my leak came from the worn out gasket at the end of the pipe since there was also oil sitting on the sludge build-up.

1) What would cause this deposit to remain soft?

2) Could this leak (oil in intake) be a symptom of a bearing leaking in the turbo?

BTW I blocked the EGR about 6 months ago, thanks for any advice- Bryan (1987 300tdt)
