Bent window channel drivers side 1985 300 D

1985 300 D

Rolling driver's power window up yesterday, we heard a bang a little over halfway up, but the window continued as normal.
The window worked fine several times today. Late this afternoon, the window went to about halfway and stopped. It also would not continue even with manual assistance. It would roll down from this point and up to this point just fine. Upon removing the door panel, the first thing I found was a loose nut on the upper stud for mounting the regulator. Further inspection revealed that the inner lip on the channel the glass sits in was bent outward toward the interior of the car and was catching on a protrusion on the inside of the webbed portion of the regulator body just aft of the motor.
I removed the regulator and used pliers to compress the channel(which bolts to the regulator) back into shape. I did not remove the glass as I do not know how. Upon reassembly and testing, the window will roll down (scraping the regulator body), but hangs and bends about halfway up. Disassembled once more and left regulator above halfway. The window does just fine as long as we do not roll down past halfway.
Researching the web, it appears that the channel the window sits in is only available as part of the glass. Most of the drivers window glasses I find do not come with this channel on them. I am also hesitant to buy a glass with channel and install it (don't quite know how, just yet) without understanding what caused the current one tho snag and bend or why it still does.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Thank You
