OM617/606 swap questions

im looking to swap either a om617 or 606 in to a volvo 740. My goal is 500 HP MAX but would be happy with 350-400. I had some questions

OM606
What dose it take to swap it?
Hrness and computer?
Can you put a mechanical injection pump (603 pump?)
Dooing this would i avoid the electronics
Would I loose potential horse power with a mechanical pump? Is there a manual trans available in the states?

OM617
How much power can they make?

You're in the wrong forum for performance swaps. Head on over to superturbodiesel.com - tuning performance turbo diesel mercedes, W123, W116 and up. OM617, OM60X for lots of information on performance pumps, turbos, and all manner of exotic mods to give you power, as well as suspension, transmission and running gear upgrades to handle the power. There are quite a few swaps there as well. Look particularly for stand alone ECU and TCU as well as transmission adapters to make the job easier.

Look around here for various threads on "stock" swaps of diesels into SLs, Studebaker, Toyota, S10, Jeep, Range Rover and probably others I'm forgetting.

In a nutshell a swap is just a highly methodical process of making it fit and then adapting system by system to the new environment until it works and then making it legal.

My own OM617 -> R107 swap is completely documented and has been on the road for 3 years logging over 92k miles.

Oh, the 617s don't make much power but last really well...
