Power steering hose leaking

I saw on another thread that the hose running from the power steering pump down to the rack was one that had to be ordered from Germany. Not sure about that so thought I would ask.

Mine is leaking and I wanted to replace it.

Dealership gets stuff from Germany more quickly unless someone has it in stock.
Not sure if there is an aftermarket part available.

I have been looking for a source of a few feet of Power Steering Pressure Hose (SAE J2050) and none of the usual places like eBay or Amazon have someone selling it.

You can go to the makers site and get info on it but it seems to be always in conjunction with the Collars and the Collar Crimping Tools.

Seems like they don't want to sell it to DIYers.

I figured to use Oeitiker type clamps on it.

I suppose some other Hydraulic Hose could be used.

J2050: High-Temperature Power Steering Pressure Hose - SAE International J2050 201207
This SAE Standard covers two types of hose fabricated from textile reinforcement and synthetic rubber, assembled with end fittings for use in high-temperature automotive power steering applications as flexible connections within the temperature range of -40 to +150 °C (-40 to +302 °F) maximum and 10.3 MPa (1500 psi) maximum working pressure.

Find a shop that rebuilds hydraulic construction equipment in your local phone directory. They always have a good supply of hose.

I looked up power steering hose for a 96 Diesel, and Pelican does not show any.

I looked up for my 80 240D it shows only the return hose, but no high pressure hose.
Probably the same for all W123`s.

1980 Mercedes-Benz 240D Base Sedan - Steering System - Page 2

I looked up on another site and it shows a high pressure hose for a W123
123-997-04-80 about $60.

Looking up for your 96 Diesel, it shows no hoses...strange.

Don't know about the OP's 1996, but the W123 high-pressure hose has "field repairable" fittings. Be happy since those are very expensive. You can remove the fittings from the hose with just box wrenches. I replaced the hose in my 1984 300D and posted w/ photos. I bought "2-wire" (steel) bulk hose on ebay (rated ~3000 psi), but you can also get at Tractor Supply or any hydraulic supply. The SLS hoses are similar and I learned from those posts (many thanks to the wagon owners). Note that the shell which grabs the outside of the hose is a left-hand thread, meaning you unscrew it opposite what you do to open the cap on a peanut better jar. In my 1984, the hose was leaking right in the top middle. When I turned the steering wheel slightly to build pressure, I could see a drop form on the outside of the hose. If I recall, the factory hose was not 2-wire (rather nylon wrap). I think most power steering relief valves are set ~1000 psi.

The 85 SD return line is 12mm. I haven't dealt with pressure side.
