Ha! I am amazed this is for sale in denver! Must be on the plains side of the state.

Owned the escort version with same mazda motor and its literally the slowest diesel ive ever experienced. Like 1.5 VW diesel towing a boat anchor slow. The 1.6 VW diesel seems to have a lot more torque. Any grade with more than one passenger i was in the breakdown lane with my hazards on crawling uphill. Flats it was ok, peppy enough.

Notables for people looking to buy- first step in timing belt change is " remove engine". Secondly it has a stock bypass oil filter, that part is a nice design.

1984, that is the time frame the were putting Diesels in everything.
I bought my Datsun KC PU in 81 and it is a Diesel.

They even put a BMW Diesel in one of the Lincoln Mark xx in 84.

I sold mine to a shoeless moronic hippie with no regrets. I suppose memory lane is always guilded, like that homely partially bearded squat girl that attended the prom with you becomes a supermodel given enough years.

Part of Mazda has been attached to Ford since at least the early 70's. ( See Mazda pickup badged as Ford Courier )

Mazda diesels made their way into early 80's Ford Ranger ( US design / built mini truck ) and later in the run, Mitsubishi diesels were used.

Part of Mitsubushi was attached to Chrysler ( Dodge D 50 mini truck , various small cars , part of Isuzu attached to GM ( Chevy LUV mini pickup ) part of Toyota to GM ( Mid 80's Chevy Nova ) . . .The list goes on and on. . .

Just remember - many diesel-specific parts for these 'limited-production' '80s diesels were getting hard to find 15 - 20 years ago. Today, expect it to be that much worse!

I knew that Ford owned Mazda; what surprised me is the idea that they used their Diesels. IOW, I've never seen a Mazda-engine, Ford car.

Ford majority owned Mazda in the mid 90s but aside from that it just had percentages of their stock (which iirc they will own a small chunk). They collaborated engineering on a number of cars over the years, few that come to mind aside from the Lynx are the ford probe/mx6, Mazda Navajo/explorer, the newer model Mazda 3 and Ford Fusion share an engine, the escort and 323, fiesta and 121, etc.
