ac compressor clutch replacement 1999 e300td

Hello,

I have been experiencing major belt vibrations and noise. I am in the process of replacing the shock and tensioner spring (again) and I'm going to replace the pulley on the alternator. Ever since I have owned the car, the AC compressor clutch has been very noisy when it turns on, or when it switches between low and high pressure...it almost sounds like a machine gun, sometimes clicking fast, other times clicking slow. The system blows cold air and builds correct pressure so I am quite sure it is just the clutch. Does anyone have any experience swapping out just the clutch and not the entire compressor unit on this car? Is there anything I need to know before attempting to do so? Thank you.

I can't answer your questions but I will say that I have a complete pulley tool kit that may be of use to you. Definitely for the alternator pulley if not both the clutch and alternator both.

Thank you KarTek for your offer but I have decided to just go ahead and replace the entire compressor with a remanufactered unit. I will be posting a new thread about this. Please feel free to reply to my new thread if you have any experience replacing the compressor.
