Interesting alterations. I appreciate the imagination the builders had and the ability to figure out how to make it work. The skills needed to make it look realistic are impressive!

I saw a PT cruiser locally that had a similar modification.

I can't even imagine the difficulty of matching the body panels smoothly. Just chopping a roof like rodders do is very complex and hard to get right. The rear top part does look like from an El Camino. I live in Sac, so will keep an eye out for it.

I never heard of these, but that sounds super cool. Do you have any pics of those utes?

Clearly the first one :

A. is a W123 not an SD .

B. isn't any sort of Mercedes product ~ they'd cringe at the poor quality body works that are rusting away through the bondo .

I like it and would like to see it up fixed and re painted .

Mercedes built a cab forward truck to transport SL race cars in the 50's / 60's using ( I think ) a sedan nose / cowl and doors.

For a USA built transport using the same concept, see " cheetah transport truck race car "

Jay Leno has a replica, probably the only one outside of Stuttgart and definitely the only one that routinely gets driven. It IS Jay Leno after all, no garage queens:
