Market for Cores?

Replacing the high pressure fuel pump on one of the CDIs. Several vendors have a core charge in the $225-250 range. The vendor I got mine from didn't charge a core charge. So got me wondering who buys cores and how that market works.

Anyway, I'm going to get the old pump back....either to take apart for my amusement/education or sell it if it's worth something.

When the rebuilding industry buys cores they want a large amount of them.
Even in those pull your own parts off junk yards have seen the Junk Yard Workers pulling of things like Starters and A/C pumps to be sold as cores. The yard gets more from you if you buy one but they sometimes need more cash flow.

I forgot to mention another issue with the rebuilding industry. If they bought individual cores the core would be thrown on a pile till there was enough of them to process efficiently. That would mean money paid for individual cores would be tie up until the cores were rebuilt and sold.

If a business buys a bunch of cores from a junk yard they buy it on credit/account and have at least one month to get the Cores rebuilt and sold before they have to pay the account. That means till the account comes due the cores were free accept for transporting them to the factory to be rebuilt.

When I changed my Glow Plug Controller I was looking for someone to buy my core but had no luck. I ended up giving it to my Indy (hoping he can sell it).
