606 Fan Clutch in 87 603 Clarifications

Hello again all,

So I am replacing the fan clutch in my 87 300d and, unfortunately, ********az got back to me and said that they no longer carry the sachs fan clutch w/fan...I could buy ACM, but have not heard good things, and I am skeptical about the Meyle fan clutch with plastic fan. Does anyone have good things to say about either the Meyle or ACM fan clutch?

After doing some research, it seems that I can put the 606 fan clutch (Sachs) in my 87 300d (Part #: 606-200-01-22-M932). Is this correct?

The second part that I need help with is the fan. Since my fan is original I want to replace it for good measure. I was just going to get the 11-Blade fan(Part #: 606-200-01-23-M90) that fits the 606 Clutch, but I was reading on the forum that it might not fit on the 87 300d...is this true? Also, if I went this route, could I just use the bolts that attach my current clutch to the metal fan? I would like to use the 11-blade fan as I have read it does a better job at cooling, but most importantly I want a proper fit!

Lastly, I also read that the 606 clutch fits the metal fan as seen in post #14 (OM603 to OM606 Fan Clutch Mod ????). If this is true, could I buy the plastic 9-blade fan and slip the 606 clutch in here and use the bolts from the metal fan?

Thanks for taking the time to read and respond! I just want the best for 87 300d as I plan on driving it for many years to come. Any and all advice is appreciated and used!

I run the 606-200-01-22 clutch and 606-200-01-23 fan on my 87 300 TD.

It is the way to go...

Do yourself a favor and get the "shorty" 8 mm hex bit while you are ordering the parts.
