W123 Shifter bushings
I have searched and couldn't find any talk about the 2 bushings in the shifter housing.
In the pic you'll see that # 17 and # 14 are bushings. Does anyone know how to dismantle the shifter box and replace these bushing? Thanks ![]()

I have one that needs doing also. I was hoping I wouldn't have to crawl under and disconnect the rods, theres just 4 10mm that hold the shifter in place.

Remove ashtray
Remove center console wood Remove PRNDSL shift gate Remove #5 in your image Remove C clip #20 Remove bushings and replace Remove old shift gate bulb and replace as well Installation is reverse order. I've done it twice already. Those are the two bushings easily accessible from the inside, plus the third one #11 if you're willing to dive deeper. Bushing #101 should be done from under the car. HTH ![]() edit: Remove shift lever by lifting up on shift gate PRNDSL and access the big screw that holds it down (15mm?) use an open end wrench for this

Below the car are also bushings that effect shifting and the feel of the gear selector. I just changed my wife's bushings (

I tried to change the bushings today and I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get the top of the shifter box off.
I got the knob and the PRNDSL gate out. Then I took the 4 10mm bolts out, I stuck after that.. Can anyone help out? Thanks Happy New Year

You need to use the C clip pliers and remove the C clip, in order to free the rod that's holding that bit down. The clip snaps onto #8 in the image. Sorry if I misled you at first, that bit was the tricky part. It's a tight squeeze.

So I use the C clip pliers and then I can pull #5 out? Its hard getting the shift knob out too.
