A/C Compressor Not Coming Out

Followed all the directions and the A/C compressor isn't coming out. I tried a five pound dead blow, but nothing. Even Tram is stumped. Any of y'all have any ideas?

Be nice if there was pictures, but nothing usable.

Me and my Service Dog thank y'all in advance! :P

i just did this... yea that compressor is on there damn tight. I found that using a 5' steel pole from the plumbing department at Lowe's did the trick as a breaker bar. I would recommend getting under the car and doing the screw with the long sleeve first. Just twist it loose a little. Then come over the car and use the breaker bar to get the top one. The side left one is kind of tough.. but i managed to get the breaker bar in there too.

(you slide the end of the socket wrench inside the metal tube)

Thank you so much for the reply! :D

Per the instructions, just two bolts, which are removed. Belt removed too. So which way are you pushing the compressor?

Against the clutch and pushing towards the rear?

Oh, and have had a pipe breaker for years. Was five feet until this afternoon. :P

The times in my life where I was having to put way too much pressure on stuff to get it apart.... I had missed something simple... a hidden bolt....
OR once I had moved up the scale on Pullers... and was using a cheater bar to put pressure on that bigger hub puller... this was the back hub on a Volkswagen Beetle ... when I figured out that the parking brake was still engaged... and it does not take much of a ridge on the inside of the brake hub to make that an impossible job...
So just make sure you have found all the bolts which might be holding it on before you apply ' Hulk ' level forces... broken bolts or framing.. all way more labor to replace...

Yes, that is why trying to confirm just two bolts.

Funny about the Volkswagen. I cut my teeth on my Squareback. This Mercedes though has only a few applicable lessons/techniques though. :P

B.T.W., grew up with my Dad's '64. I remember watching and then helping a little on valve adjustments and other tasks. Still can remember the thrill of getting to get to sit in the driver's seat to apply the brakes so he could check the lights. He was SUPER protective and ONLY he sat in the driver's seat. Sure wish Oma sell the Impala so could get him to get back in love and back on the road. I am not saying I don't have a log in my eye. That's why decided to get back to both and get this Mercedes a little closer to repaired (long list...).

I remember three bolts....

vstech 06-21-2016 01:17 PM

three bolts... four if you count the adjuster... but it's not necessary to remove...

vstech 06-21-2016 01:17 PM

unless you are talking about the 79, and it still has the York...

vstech 06-21-2016 01:19 PM

if you are talking about the 85... three bolts... all 19mm... all VERY LONG from the back. the compressor will fall right out.

vstech 06-21-2016 01:20 PM

ALL 61x belt driven accessories are contained by 3 bolts... ALL.

John, was kind of feeling stupid (was behind the sheet metal), but now with you providing a wealth of information, feel better, as a learning opportunity. ;) Thank you so very much! :D

Currently trying to resolve the brakes, as like to order parts from the German F.L.A.P.S. and hopefully get in time for Thursday work. Then need to find a 27mm wrench to get those A/C lines off. I tried taking out the manifold, but no help.

Rich, glad you are back! :D

That is why had the hoses connected and my body out of the way. :P That sucker is heavy.

Next up, getting the hoses undone. Got to find the spanners that fit.

1 1/16" wrench is probably easier to find than 27mm. Its what I use.

Okay, good to have that confirmed. I love options. :P
