SBC Brake Service - Pads/Rotors
So the brake pad wear light is coming on on my 06 CDI and I feel some warped rotor type pulsation. So it is time for at least front brakes.
Has anyone here actually done brakes on their SBC car? I am reading how-to's online and it seems people are doing it without the use of a scan tool. I have the iCarsoft MBII software and it has a function where it can disable the SBC system and reset the padwear light. Has anyone used a scan tool to turn off the SBC and service the brakes, or should I use the internet/youtube proscribed "unplug everything and put the key far far away from the car while you work on it" method. Any insights from people who have actually done it? I found this write up, which shows the SBC system going into the same mode that my scanner can do. Does anyone know if you leave the car keyed on and the scanner hooked up to keep it disabled, or if I disable, then key the car off, will it stay disabled? http://fotifixes.com/2012/09/03/how-to-change-break-pads-and-discs-on-a-mercedes-e-class-w211-with-sbc-brakes/ My scan tool has this option ![]() Then the car goes into this mode ![]() I guess my question is, do I trust carsoft to have relaxed the SBC system, or should I just unplug the unit like other people are doing.
