Picked up an 82 240D two weeks ago.. need some help

Hello,

I picked up an 82 240D with 140k miles two weeks ago and have been doing work little by little to it.

Thus far I've changed both fuel filters, the air filter, oil and filter, every single vacuum line under the hood, and done a diesel purge.

It idles alot better but still shakes a good bit and now shifts really nicely.

Here are my main concerns:

I think it needs a valve adjustment.. no record of it having been done by the PO in 20k miles or so. I'm hoping this will cure the hard cold starts and rough idle.

The battery drains VERY rapidly, like in a few hours rapidly. I've replaced it and it still drains. I've checked it with a test light and binder clip on the negative terminal and the light did not illuminate. This would lead me to believe nothing was zapping power?

When I first turn the key the glow plug light does not illuminate. After cranking for a second or two if I turn the key off again and then on the glow plug light will illuminate and function as normal. Unfortunately the battery runs down pretty quickly trying to start on a 50 degree morning.

There is a terribly loud humming noise from the right front as well as clunking when going over bumps. When I turn right, putting all the weight on the left side of the car the humming goes away. I'm pretty sure this would mean it needs a new wheel bearing?

Lastly the engine will not shut off with the key. I'm thinking this has got to be the vacuum line that runs to the ignition being disconnected inside the car because every single vacuum line under the hood is brand new and i've checked the valve on the injection pump.
