Compress spring for a guide rod mount replacement on a 126?
Compress spring for a guide rod mount replacement on a 126?
I just ordered the guide rod mount to replace the one on my 87 SDL that is totally shot. From the manual (for the 123, I get my 126 manual next week, but I bet it is similar) I can't tell whether it is possible to install it without compressing the spring. One post I saw seemed to say that it was possible, though not easy. Does anyone have any experience with doing this installation? I will also be replacing the upper control arm which appears not to need spring compression. If I am wrong, anyone is free to tell me. Always better to know before you get it apart. thanks dieselers

Upper control arm no spring compress. Guide rod mount requires a spring compress.

If you compress to do the guide rod mount, be sure to replace the rubber bushings where the rod attaches to the front suspension as well. Very inexpensive and easy while its all apart.
