240D home

I just got back from picking up the $310 75 240D from OKC, OK. This car is DEFINITELY a project car. At least this one is of a means that I will be able to address and fix. The fuel system had lost prime when I got there, and completely refused to start. The seller and another mechanic (it was stored at a MB specialty shop), dug in and found that a hose had split and air was leaking into the filter housing around the mounting bolt. They fixed this problem and the car finally came to life. A quick test drive around the area revealed that the tranny is shifting nicely, but leaking HUGE amounts of fluid - enough so that it was starting to slip after only the quick drive around the block, an up and down my street after getting home. From the location of the leak, front pump seal is suspected. This looks to be one of the first areas that are going to be addressed. The glow system had been hashed to a switch, and then quick rigged to work by connecting two wires under the hood after their switch quit working. Getting the glow/start lever working will be next. Basically, the electrical will need a thorough going over. It will need a repaint, sme body work, and interior redo as well. There is no cushion left in the drivers seat at all.

Engine does smoke a bit. At least I'm not smelling any oil in the exhaust. Smoke is light grey in color, so I'll pull the injectors and have 'em rebuilt. I'll also replace all glowplugs as they took a pretty severe beating while we were all trying to get it started. Oil pressure is excellent, and builds up to a little over 15 psi while cranking, and then pegs as all MB oil guages do as soon as it starts. As for the A/C, I haven't even tried it yet. Oh yeah, the temp guage and speedometer don't function at all.

All in all, it looks like I'm gonna have me lots o' work to do. :D
