brake bleed W123

As I wonder about a brake bleed mystery I'm struggling with .... a continuing spongy sinking brake pedal after three replacement master cylinders, ( one OReilly rebuild, one new Metelli, and a new ATE) all bled to death, all new hoses, with a continuing soft spongy pedal....

- for the rears the bleed screw located at the bottom .... how to those air bubbles reach the bottom to exit the caliper at the bleed screw location?

- for years that has never been a problem but this is the first time I've begun with a brake system that is full of air, no fluid at all.

The following site suggest dismount the caliper but do not disconnect the hose for bleeding, be sure that bleed screw is at the top where bubbles like to go. Perhaps put a block of wood or whatever in the caliper to prevent pistons from popping out.

Perhaps you have calipers installed on the wrong side of the car. Bleeders should be on top.

I agree they should be on top. However the hose connections must be oriented up, they are installed so hoses can reach .

Good point, why did makers do that? Can the hoses reach if they are oriented down?

after writing the above response to you I looked at the FSM lo and behold it looks like the hose is oriented DOWN in the illustration

holy crap

now I have a solution, it may be the hose does reach.

GOOD POINT.

Architect eh. I was lucky and worked on a Frank Lloyd Wright building and several designed by students of his. May have stayed in the building trades if I could have worked on really nice ones like that with lots of design interest.
