OM617 thermostat housing short hose?

Is the short hose that attaches to the thermostat housing a specific part (I can't seem to find it on pelican parts), or just a standard hose size cut to proper length?

I assume you mean the large diameter lower hose. As I recall, it is 16 mm ID. I bought ~3 ft length of silicone hose on ebay and used in both my 300D's. Should last longer than the factory rubber.

I removed the T-stat housing. Don't know if you could force the hose in that small gap otherwise. With the housing off, I checked the timing chain tensioner while easier access. If pressed for time, have a new tensioner spring on hand (~$7 @ P-P) since the spring coils wear a flat on one side (both mine). Also, need a new gasket.

I believe it's standard 42mm Hose cut to length. Many sites used to list it with a special part# but I've noticed lately that isn't the case anymore.

I bought a length of it from Mercedes to do this on both of my cars for $110 bucks and have some left over.

I can sell you the length you need of genuine MB hose part number 900271-042012 for $10 shipped. PM me if interested.

I thought 1 3/8" was too big. Didn't use it.

I apologize for mis-leading anyone, my memory was way off. My silicone hose measures 1.5625" ID = 40 mm. Search for "1-5/8 silicone hose" on ebay or "40 mm". One listing today is "Straight 0 Degree 76mm 40mm Silicone Hose Coupler Intercooler Turbo Intake K", $6 w/ free shipping from China. I chose blue, but you can buy black or red. Please nobody ask for some from my stock since would cost more just to ship.

I. D. discrepancies...

Hello, I just got off the phone with O'Reilly and I was told that "gates green 24226" is 41 mm I. D. and 1 5/8" I. D.

IS THIS GOING TO BE TOO BIG?

It's not expensive, but I have to wait a day before I can get ahold of it, and I'd rather not be barking up the wrong tree -- thanks in advance!

I THINK that's the correct hose- at least that's the exact size of a piece of Gates hose with the green stripe that I bought for this purpose. However, I haven't installed it yet, so I'm not 100% certain.

I remember finding the actual part very inexpensively. Pelican can get you the PN and it used to be readily available if you know the PN with no need to cut to length. It may have been as long ago that Roy was still around and before the site sold - but call them.

Some places sell it only by the 3 ft/one meter length other places will sell you a shorter length.

When I did mine I found out that there was big craters eaten out of the aluminum on the side that seals against the hose.

I brushed, scraped or ground out all of the white corrosion; degreased with Brake Cleaner and filled it in with the slow curing JB Weld Epoxy and wrapped tape around it so it would contour to the part. Then I filed and sanded down the area. Some air bubbles in the epoxy had to be filled so I did it several times till I was done and it has been that way with no issues since 2008.
At the same time I also had to do that to the Thermostat Housing where the Upper Radiator hose sealed. I don't recall on the bottom radiator hose area.

It's actually a tad bit tight. I.D. for the original hose is 42mm but that shouldn't be a big issue. Better a little too small than too big.
