1984 300DT trunk lock acting out again....
OK, since the last post concerning the truck not unlocking, I used this product with great success:
https://www.amazon.com/Super-Lube-11006-Aerosols-Dri-Film/dp/B00L3HIMEA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498438014&sr=8-1&keywords=Super+LUbe+Dri+Film I sprayed liberal amounts into the lock and let the car sit overnight. Next day VOILA! the turnk opened like magic has continued to work very well over the past few months. Today, for some reason, the trunk lock has decided to not release. So....I broke out the Super Lube Dri Film again and have heavily dosed it over the past three hours. I had a helper sit on the trunk lid thinking perhaps my prior repair in which had I cut several sheets of gasket material and installed them under the latch which lowered the latch making it easier to unlock might force the latch downward (thinking perhaps the gasket material had compressed) allowing the trunk to unlock. Still no joy. UPDATE: I used the trunk release cable underneath the rear seat (whoever thought of putting that in the car was a GENIUS!!) to open the trunk. I then used my left hand to manually operate the trunk release and noticed the locking release worked perfectly. However, when I press on the trunk release button just above the license plate, the lock does not release! I sprayed some more Super Lube Dri Film lubricant on it, still no joy. Any ideas? Do I need to buy a new lock?? Last edited by HuskyMan; 06-25-2017 at 09:36 PM. |

IIRC, you will need a helper to push the release button and pull the emergency cable simultaneously.

Ditto on the helper; we managed to get it opened, had to close the trunk lid this morning because I had to go somewhere. I just now checked it and for some strange reason, the trunk lid lock now works perfectly! I sprayed it again with the Super Lube Dri Film spray. I'll monitor it over the next few days and report back.
Perhaps the car is possessed? ![]() ![]() |
