Advice before OM603 engine swap

Hi guys,

I am planning on swapping out my OM603NA for a spare one I have in my 1989 w124 300D.

Before doing so, is there anything I will need to have on hand or that will likely need replacement before I undertake it and realise I need something ?

I do all my own work. I have done trans swaps before but never undertaken an engine swap.

Also is it easier to disconnect trans or leave connected when I pull it out ?

I’d want to plan for all gaskets I could reasonably change. I’d also want to know if the oil pan was different, since it may need to be swapped. Probably a good time to do a timing chain and lifters proactively, get the injectors refurbished, etc.
