Anyone in Seattle Area want to help me get a w123 running and get a w123 as payment?
FIRST OFF, IF THIS THREAD SHOULD BE IN THE PAC NW GENERAL DISCUSSION SECTION, IM SORRY AND PLEASE RELOCATE
Here is the low down. I live in an highly congested area completely surrounded my 10 - 100 unit apartment complexes. I own 3 w123, so me parking 3 of these cars next to each other creates a lot of curiosity and conversation from other tenants. So I'm outside every weekend working on them and this is usually when people come and ask me what's the story w/ my Cars, w/ me, can I fix their car for them, and etc. Yesterday the landlord of a adjacent complex came out and told me that an elderly friend of hers had seen my Cars and would like me to come check out his cars and get them running again. From what I have gathered so far the elderly man owns 4 Mercedes from ~1972 - ~1985, she said they all look the same as mine but especially for the average Joe that could mean the cars could pretty much be any model within those years. The original question asked was, could I install new ignitions in them because he has lost all of the keys over the years, I told her yes but the best route would actually be to bring all the VIN numbers to the dealership and have all the keys re cut. To save money, time, and so we wouldn't have to switch out the door locks to comply with the new key. I don't know much more than this besides he said the cars were all running when they were parked years ago, so they all could still be running but we need a key or a hot wire to confirm if they still are. She told me the guy is just too old to work on them now and just wants to get one of them running and unload the rest to a new home where they will be loved again And given TLC because he does not have the time or interest that he once had in his younger years. So as of now this is all that I know. I just got texted his number this morning so I'm going to call around noon to get more information. I dont know the milage, visual condition, if the payment cars are actually fixable, what models they are, gas or diesel, and etc. I don't know any of that now but I will when I call and talk to him in a few hours. Now this could possibly be Really good find, he may be original owner, the milage may be below 100k documented it might end up being a frickin sweet find but it also might just be junk... (Sorry for being so repeatative, but I won't have the details til later today) what I need from you guys is one man to help. I need a confident and competent hand who knows these cars and can help diagnose the possible problems and help if I run into something that I don't know how to do. I AM NOT LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO DO THE JOB FOR ME! I'm learning fast and understand these cars pretty damn well (where I'm at skill wise is one year into RELIGIOUSLY working on or researching w123's EVERYDAY), basically if I know what part needs to be replaced or adjusted I can do that install or tune by myself no problem, it's just finding what the issue is that I have trouble with but again I am learning how to diagnose a troubleshoot problems one by one and getting better at. (Especially with All the help from u guys and Google I'm catching on quickly) The helper I'm looking for should be, - a good wrench - knowledgeable/experienced w/ old Mercedes - own a trailer and truck or have means to obtain one (I have a friend who could drive his, but it would just be easier schedule wise to keep everything in-house between the two of us) - have your own tools, racing jack, jack stands, ramps (yes i have my own too) and maybe some specialty tools might come in handy too (compression tester, pop tester, etc) (yes I have my own tools aswell) - available on Saturdays or Sundays - live in greater Seattle area -willing to accept one car as payment for your labor and knowledge. I'm pretty confident i can do this by myself but - I want to spread the love - don't want to get stuck in a corner I don't know how to get out of - it's Always good to have a hand to help physically and mentally. - I also would enjoy and find it beneficial to have a Mercedes buddy in Seattle for both of our future/current projects - I definitely don't have room for 3 more cars, at my apartment Please let me know if your tentatively interested before more detailed information is available to us later today (Sunday 8-27-2017)
