Issue: Crank bolt backed out and went MIA during use. Problem locating compatible replacement hardware.

I do know that I can use the crankshaft bolt from most w124 and w140 chassis cars as well as some w126's, etc
I know the following models have the bolt I can use: OM603.912, .913, .950, .960, .961, .962, .963
all OM606 models
M107.99x Petrol Engines.

I have not made progress using any of our parts sites nor with local parts/yards as i'm only running into complete engines where only option is buy the whole engine if I want the bolt.
However I have found 1 crankshaft bolt that was removed from an OM603.971 Engine. I have not confirmed if it will fit and thus I havent made a move on it.

All in all, what's your $.02 on this $30 bolt?

Call Pelican Parts for a new one. Get a new stack of Belleville washers too.

You didn't bother to tell us your car and engine. Find the size of the bolt and buy it from a normal bolt source. Ace Hardware may have metric bolts that size, and buy grade 8 if possible. Re size, for my OM617.952 engines, I recall the crank bolt takes a 30 mm socket and is a normal hex head size for that diameter, so might work your way back from that. But, don't quote that since long time since I turned the engine over w/ the crank bolt (now use p.s. pulley) and 32 mm socket seems familiar too (a search should find it). I recall it is a fine thread, but I also recall that metric bolts have 3 thread pitch choices.

If you lost the bolt, you likely lost the cupped washers too, and they are rarer. Also, be very careful when re-installing the crank damper, as you can fairly easily mess up the 2 round keys on the crankshaft end, thus ruining it. The two slots are not exactly 180 deg apart, so the damper fits at only one angle. Use a mirror and insure you have it clocked correctly.
