CDI oil filter wrench
 

I was looking for an oil filter wrench for my '07 Bluetec, and my CDI, but can't find the size for the CDI. The '07 takes the 84mm, but our sponsor does not say the 84mm will work. Amazon concurs, and even says the 84mm will NOT work for the '05 CDI. I purchased the 84mm, and hope it works on the CDI as well. Every site I look at says the 84mm fits Jeep, Dodge (Sprinter), Mercedes (E320) etc. Anyone know if they are the same?

ROLLGUY, Curious why you also bought a Bluetec V6?

It was very affordable, already had the oil cooler seals replaced, and low mileage (73,000).

Is this the same 2007 CDI, that your friend owned and you wrote about it here about 4.5 years ago?

I may go with the Mercedes Benz one from Peachparts. It shows to be 74 mm 14 flutes. Can't get mine off. I may order one from amazon.

I also need a fuel filter wrench for my Ford 7.3 liter diesel. Bundling on amazon $25 or more pays freight on the right items.

The 76mm stamped one from AutoZone just sleds around the head. Walmart Supercenter doesn't have anything that's worked.

It's a 74 mm according to Amazon. What did you end up using for the CDI?

Will be ordering one in a couple weeks since I'll be on the road.

After trying several oil filter assy. wrenches, and even a pair of giant channel locks, I am wondering if it will or would assist the assy. cap's removal by driving the car a good while to heat it up, and then direct a hand held hair blow dryer on high for a few minutes to help expand/loosen the cap's tightness?

As I wrote above, I'm going to order the correct size wrench on the Internet, but am wondering what the challenges are since this is the first time I've attempted to remove the cap assy.

I ordered one a few days ago, and got it today. Unfortunately, I don't have a CDI handy to try it on!

I doubt there is any way other than the correct tool, or in a pinch, "channel lock" type pliers (yes they work).

Hazet 2169-10 is what I use. 74mm 14 flute, works great on everything from the M112/M113 to the M272 and OM651 Made in Germany, top notch quality.

The "O" ring seals the cap. It does not require a lot of force to install or remove. I have always done mine by hand. If it is really hot I will insulate my hands with a rag or newspaper.

I have always had a hard time removing the cap without a tool, but tightening it is easily done by hand.

Oil filter torque spec is written on the cover. I think I bought a 2005 E320 CDI oil Filter Wrench for $10 and keep it in my trunk next to spare oil filter.
