Looks pretty well done .

If the bed is solid and usable in inclement weather, I'd use it .

I have seen several of these, mostly old beat to crap S Klasses, one of three W123's, all were badly done junk .

I'd give my left nut for an original 'Bakkie" .

Looks good.

Very clean compared to what I've seen locally, which all look like something that lost a fight with a sawzall and then got patched up with expanding foam, bondo, and plexiglass.

Wish we got the Utes like the Aussies get.

I think it would be extremely cool to own and drive but without reviewing structural modifications I would be doubtful of the value of that bed.

By frame I mean they would have had to stiffen the body some how in absence of such a large portion of the monocock.

1983 Mercedes El Camino

Saw one of those in town and shot a pic at the stoplight--see above thread.
Evidently, the car came from the factory that way.

I have 4 door Citroen convertible and would love a 4-door 300SD. What a car that would be!

A lot of thought and care went into that, so I expect the frame was modified appropriately. For me, it would mainly be for the bling, since I had a pickup for 10 yrs and wouldn't want another (82 S-10 long-bed). I hauled a lot, since remodeling my house. Since then, I found a minivan w/ rear seats out is more useful since it carries more volume (incl. 4x8 plywood), w/ everything protected, and good used vans can be had for $500.

Fixing the " frame " isn't as difficult as you would think. Make a square tube roll hoop just behind the front seats, tie it to the floor / inner roof structure then install square tube extending rearward along the " bed rail ". Tie this bed rail area to the floor / "frame " and you are done. This can be installed before the roof is cut off.

Think low cost utility trailer made from angle iron, these have a 2 ft high rail that is structural.
