N/A OM617 injection pump question

Thanks in advance for any input.

I was looking at my injection pump on my N/A OM617 and I noticed a bolt with "OIL" under it, on top of the pump (as seen on attached pic) . Does this pump take oil? If so what kind and how much? I thought OM617's injection pump uses fuel as lubricant.

Also in the pic on a side note. There is a dial there that can be turned. I am assuming this is for altitude. The numbers are 0, 4000, 8000, and 12,000. I live in FL 15ft above sea level so i put it on 0. When I first got the car it was up around 12,000 and the power was REALLY bad, super slow/sluggish. I put it on 0 and power was up 3 fold. Am I correct in thinking that is some sort of altitude compensator?
