If you locate one, better grab it quick. They are getting much harder to find. I believe Ansa is the only manufacturer for the stock muffler.

I have an Ansa on my SDL (I didn't install it). The quality is absolutely SHOCKING. Seriously, if that's your only option, get a custom exhaust. The quality is THAT BAD.

There is nothing unusual about the shape of this particular muffler, so you can always take the old one to a custom exhaust shop, and have them fab up a new one for you. They can make it out of various grades of stainless, or just mild steel, up to you. I bet it costs less than buying a new Ansa, and will be of higher quality. My local exhaust shop did a complete cat-back mandrel-bent stainless custom exhaust for me on a previous E300 I owned, for $450.

I haven't ordered one, but just because Ansa may make it doesn't mean its the same as you buy from Ansa. Next time you need an oil filter, order a MB oil filter and a Mann. Not only does different stuff come in the box, the filter looks different. Meaning Mann made it for MB, but to their specs.

I appreciate everyone input, 9 yrs ago I ordered rear muffler for my other 85 stand believe it was Ansa or Bosal. (Parts Geek)

Still holding together good but since then many of the parts we use to rely on are now coming in suspect with different labels on box.

Today my order for power steering filter and gasket came in Meyle plastic bag stamped blue letters "MADE IN GERMANY" but open up and sticker on back of filter says "Made In Taiwan".

So I just wonder what really is Meyle or MB or Lemendorfer parts these days

Today I call MB dealer about Valve Stem Seal Kit the man yes I can get 3-4 days $138.00 so I ask what will I get..... a box that says MB but inside Febi? or may Victor Reinz?
His response is; MB doesn't make any engine parts so does it really matter that we always consider MB only or just some times?

Sorry didn't mean to go on a rant but it just getting more frustrating it seems when we want to make sure we get top quality parts.
