1987 190 dt rough running after IP gear

Car was running fine. Well maintained. Installed IP Gear per MB instructions. Noting that I always turned engine correctly. However I did turn IP pump "backward" to set chain timing. Any suggestions?

Double check your timing marks.
Why was the IP gear changed?
