I had to replace some of the brackets on my sunroof...

Some were broken or bent. How do I correctly locate rear brackets to get the felt pad to ride in the proper location on the tracks?

How about asking it another way? What part of the rear tracks do the pads ride on?

Re: 84SD

The pads ride level on the track. I screwed up and got them out of place and the wouldn't open and close correctly. The process was trial and error. I think what finally worked was to have the roof disconnected to the point where I only had to pick it up to remove it. ie cable disconnected and retracted, upper part of the rails out, 2 bolts that hold the roof in are removed.

Install the track. Loosen the adjustment bolts on the pads and adjust outwards to slightly snug against the sides. Try moving the roof. It should slide easily. If not, consider how the thing is sliding and think about what needs to happen to make it right. The arms holding the pads are in the middle of their forward/back range of motion relative to the roof. They hold it straight but not tight.

Thanks, that's exactly what I'll do.

Has anyone replaced the felt on a sunroof's rubber pads?

I've cast a mold and intend to make myself a set of those little feet. I will need to glue felt on them but I have no idea what kind or how thick it should be. The feet on my sunroof were worn and bare of felt in many spots. I doubt any of the remainder was even close to original thickness. I suppose durability is critical too. Any advise would be appreciated.

I have a polyurethane in several shore values. I'd also like suggestions on which shore to start with.

I should have a run of them machined in teflon...that would make the sunroof self-lubricating.

A member here printed some. They work fine. No need to go aro the horn. He copied the shape, included a slot for the tab and added a slot to help hold grease better. I ended up grinding off part to have it be a simple rectangle. They have been installed for at least a year without issue or the need to clean and grease.

Pay attention to how you remove the roof and don't disturb the adjustment of the feet. Pull the roof card, unscrew the top of the rail, disconnect the cable, remove 2 bolts that hold the roof in. That's all.

I looked for contract info for the member and couldn't find it. I don't think he's active here anymore and is out of school and working. Too bad. Reality has to set in eventually.

Reality never left me after I turned 20 and had my first child.

Between keeping a wife happy, caring and playing with the children and supporting that flock I retired. Now the wife is a big fat ex, the children are all grown and I'm only governed by this MB which is my choice.

You've given good advise on this project. I gleaned from many post and the DYI on some of the procedures but none of them explained it as simply and straightforward as that which you've posted here.

Check your mail.
