W211 rear suspension
So the 2008 E320 needs its rear suspension rebuilt before I gift it over to my son. Graduated and employed and about to be married…
It really ate the left rear tire on the inside. I am going whole hog like I did on the front and just replacing all the links and the spring carrier arm back there and the shocks. Only thing I am running into is how to press out the bushing on the hub carrier (below the axle). Baum Tools does not have a pressing tool for this particular bushing. Anyone done this and if so what did you use to press in/out the bushing? Did you have to resort to pipe couplings/all thread/bolts/sockets to get it changed? Apparently there is a legit Benz tool but it is super expensive and has to come from Germany. Or you can replace the hub carriers for $700/ea I measured the new bushings and they are 38.5 mm outer diameter and the rim about 1 mm thick so your ‘pusher’ has to be about 36.5-37.5 mm and your ‘catcher’ somewhere about 39-40 mm diameter. Guess I am hitting the hardware store with my calipers if no one has any better ideas. Unless someone has experience with a generic bushing pusher set from eBay/Amazon.
