Bilstein.
I put Bilsteins on my 116 and it's heaven. I decided to go with another brand for my 123 and I'm kicking myself for not going with Bilstein.

My ‘91 300D needs all new shocks/struts. I’m going to go with Billsteins because 1) I put Billstein TC sports on my golf and they are fantastic and 2) I’ve read a lot of posts where folks were happy with another brand on their Benz initially, but they didn’t hold up over time like Billsteins.
My confusion is with the new Billstein model numbers: B4, B6 and B8... what are the equivalents to the TC, TC sport and HD? I want the HD and I don’t want shocks/struts designed for lowering springs. |

The Bilsteins on the back of my 300d started leaking after just 20k miles. I replaced them with kybs. Whatever you choose make sure it's a monotube design. There's no reason to still be using twin tube shocks in the day and age.

I ran a set of Koni’s in my 190d for 300k miles. I have about 25k miles so far on a set of KYB’s. Either of these would be firmer than Bilstein stock shocks. The Koni’s were adjustable.

Koni's are available through Tirerack. You can also check out Classic Garage dot com (although you'd probably have to call rather than use the website). |
