1995 E300D, driver side door lock actuator questions

My auto locking of the other three doors by key or manual push down of drivers side door is intermittent.

I've read a couple of threads on this and it appears I'll have to remove the door panel and remove the door lock actuator.

There is a tech article on the lock assembly plus the actuator combined removal. Is it best to remove both?

Tech article

Question 1, hoping it is not a wire broken inside the rubber boot. Has anyone had any luck cleaning the contacts for the door actuator switch?

Question 2, Is replacing a front door actuator a fairly common part to replace?
