61X Secondary fuel filter with drain.
I've had some problems with water in my fuel. Is there a 61x secondary fuel filter available with a drain in it?
|
I've read of people swapping a VW diesel filter in, which has a water drain on it. Quick googling shows Wix PN 33472.
Pretty sure that takes an adapter sleeve, and frankly if you're doing that, it's not a huge step from there to get to some much better options. |
The longer bodied water seperators require that the fuel filter head be relocated.
They also require a threaded adapter (or tapping the existing fuel filter head for for a different sized hollow bolt). I posted a fuel filter upgrade thread last year. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/386946-fuel-filter-upgrade.html Last year I made extra CAT 1R-0750 fuel filter upgrade kits for OM61X. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/mercedes-benz-used-parts-sale-wanted/386988-fs-cat-1r-7050-fuel-filter-upgrade-kits-om61x.html They include the CAT 1R-0750 filter which has a thread of 1 inch by 14 threads per inch, height of 181.5mm and diameter of 85.7mm. These filters fit the included "02' fuel filter head exactly. Plus, you can revert back to the standard filter at any time. There are available water separators that would fit the 14mm X 1.5mm to 1' X 14tpi adapter. For example, the CAT 175-249 or the FLEETGUARD FS1001. These do have a larger diameter of about 93mm, so some of the webbing from the fuel filter head would have to be removed. Send me a PM if you have interest in purchasing a kit. |
I was looking this up the other day actually.
I searched various sites but could not find any with M14x1.5 thread to fit the stock bolt as is. One site had one which turned out to be M16 thread...so I ended up buying a separate 1"-14 threaded filter mount. |
Separate water separator with a warning light. Insurance against getting a load of water with your fuel. Not long after you leave a station the light would come on.
Where about twenty dollars each on ebay many years ago when I purchased some. Those days are gone unfortunately. Actually they were pretty good quality as well. I went through the misery of a really frozen up fuel system in the depths of winter once. Not jelled fuel but a large quantity of water was purchased with that last load of fuel. |

I kinda went overkill. Griffin GTB228(high quality "Racor 500 compatible" filter) primary and the 1R-0750 secondary mentioned before. Hugely better filtration + water blocking + hugely greater water holding capacity + hugely greater dirt holding capacity.
Zero regrets. |
