How long are you going to futz around before you check compression and injector pattern/pop pressure? You're running rough/shaking and you have smoke. Those are both clues to either injection problems or mechanical/compression problems. You're just wasting your own time and effort by skipping important diagnostic (and BASIC) steps here.

lol, Diseasel300 hard and cold but straight up telling it like it is.

I don't beat around the bush. It's painful to see how long some of these threads go on before the most basic of basics is checked.

If I remember correctly the injectors were replaced - some sort of compression test was performed...

...the stumbling block seems to me to be being willing to measure timing chain elongation in accordance with either the FSM or the other information linked.

He says the injectors were replaced. With what? Were they pop tested and balanced? The correct pop pressure to begin with? If he slapped 135bar injectors in an NA engine, there's gonna be timing issues. These questions have not been answered in this thread or elsewhere by the OP.

If he did do a compression test it has not been mentioned here or in any of his other postings. Certainly no numbers given. The compression test can help determine if he's low enough on compression to cause combustion problems or can give hints as to the source of the smoke (such as oil).

Basic stuff here....

Thank you all for thinking with me

I used original dealer replacements Bosch injectors they pop at 115bar not the 135bar.

I haven't test the compression as I haven't got the time to buy the compression tool.

The chain has some stretch but, not like huge plays. I think 3mm at the tensioner.

I only have vibrations at cold as my cold idle cable is broken.

When the engine is hot, the smoke is almost gone.

115 BAR injectors are for NON TURBO engines _only_ ! .

OP's vehicle is N/A. 115bar should be correct.

Back to this time issue....here it is nearly 3 months since this thread started....pretty sure the time could have been found by now to buy, borrow, or steal a compression tester...

vwnate1 02-19-2019 05:04 PM

Ahha ~ thank you .

Agreed, should be sorted by now....

jsp300D 02-25-2019 07:48 PM

Not sorted yet. Haven't got the time to get some work on it.

But, I think I have found it. Valve seals one of them is very bad......

I only have black smoke at idle. when I rev it up it's gone.

Time to buy a turbo engine to install in this car.....

vwnate1 02-26-2019 01:18 AM

Black smoke if unburned fuel ~ maybe all it needs is good injectors ? .

Swapping an engine for a minor head issue?

Did you do a leakdown test to confirm it's the valve seal?

I was thinking of getting a different engine.

I got it sorted after an Italian tuneup and replacing the fuel tank. No smoke anymore. Seems I was burning diesel with water together.

vwnate1 04-26-2019 01:00 AM

Water & Diesel Fuel

Oh, ,my ~ that's a very bad mix as a minute amount of water in the Diesel fuel will blow the nozzles out in your injectors, making them spray like tiny fire hoses instead of the proper cone shaped fog of fuel .

This is why I add about 1.5 Oz. of some Diesel fuel treatment to every fillup ~ it $aves $, time and frustration .
