1984 300DT. Does anyone know the fuel line OD and ID and/or the Pelican Parts number for the fuel line for this car?

Does not come pre bent if even ordered from Mercedes I believe. If it is the line from front to back. I had to bite the bullet and replace the brake line as well. Just standard 5/16 or 3/8 inch copper fuel line from an auto supply place was fine. At the moment I do not recall the size. I may have done the return line as well at the time. If you are going to put the new fuel line where the old one was. If the lines are rusty in general. Disturbing them to put the fuel line in the retaining clips can make other lines leak that did not. Also would be a shipping issue to ship it straight.
Cheapest and quickest way is probably a piece of plastic fuel line clipped along the bottom in a reasonable way. Some cars went to plastic fuel lines. Also you do not disturb the other lines that way. I never put a plastic fuel line on a car yet imagine they sell it. Last edited by barry12345; 01-28-2019 at 05:12 PM. |

If you're talking about the rubber fuel line, it's 7.5mm ID. Some say they use 5/16" with success, I'm not one of them. If you like fighting with air ingress, have at it.

I have been using 5/16" Fuel Hose on the Fuel inlet hose from the fender well tubing to the Plastic Fuel Filter and the section from the plastic filter to the fuel supply/lift pump and the 2 Hoses under the Fuel Tank with no issues at all since 2007.
I can't see why the Hose itself would cause an air leak. Perhaps it depends on what Plastic filter you are using. I just use the cheapie ones with plastic inlet and out lets and have had no issue. Some of the plastic fuel filters have metal inlet and outlets. I have never used them so I cannot say if those are the ones that would be incompatible with 5/16" hose. SAE 30R7 is the Regular Fuel Hose auto part places sell and is rated for use with diesel fuel. You can use the number and look up the spec. I have never used this so I don't know how it fits but some have used 5/16" fuel injection hose because it is lined with Viton which resists the alternative fuels some people insist on using in their diesels.. The Goodyear lining is blue and the Gates lining is brown. Fuel Injection Hose SAE J30R9 or 30R90 SAE 30R9-- It costs like x3 more.

0.3125 (5/16) - 0.2952755906 (7.5mm) = 0.0172244 of an inch that the 5/16" hose is larger inside.
