OM617 EGR valve vacuum testing

If you put a hand vacuum pump (mityvac or similar) on the EGR valve, will it hold a vacuum? Mine leaks it all out in about 3/4 of a second tops, and the valve does open a little. How well do your EGR valves hold vacuum? I wonder if mine is bad.

In the midst of reassembling the mainfolds and all, and I took the time to ultrasonically clean the EGR valve and spray brake clean inside of it because it is seriously gunked up. I then tried to use it and it seemed leaky (same as before cleaning). If it is leaky after all in comparison to known good ones, I will take it apart and try to fix it, if not, I will hang onto it or give it away.

It might be hard to get an answer since we all agree that the only properly functioning EGR looks like this...
