98 E300TD starter not disengaging
Hi everyone
I have a 98 e300 td, a few weeks ago I started it outside my house to warm up before I traveled to work, after a few minutes the engine stalled, long story short the starter had burnt out as it hadn't disengaged (at that point I hadn't realised that's what caused it) So, fitted a new starter, then same happened again. Ive done the following New relay New K40 EIS tested alo g with key and ESL, no issues. What else could cause this issue? Thanks |

This is generic info not particular to Mercedes. The more typical reason for that happenings that the teeth are the ring gear are buggered up and are not releasing the pinion gear. In particular you are looking for burrs sticking out of the ring gear towards the starter.
The starter needs to be removed and the teeth on the flywheel ring gear need to be looked at. Next would be that when you turn the key off of start for some reason the electricity is not being cut off to the starter. A test light or meter ought to be able to tell you if the electricity is not being shut off when you turn away from start.
