Bundt Wheels mystery notches - help pls

I'm looking at purchasing some refinished Bundt wheels, and the search brought to light the fact that some wheels have notches on between the lug nut openings and some do not.

Some pics on the internet show notches, some do not and did not clear up my confusion.

I've attached a pic from the seller which clearly shows one rim with notches, the others without. Seller states these are all factory wheels.

Are only the wheels with notches from the factory? Are the others repros? Do the notches wheels indicate the spare rim and did MB make both?

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know if the Wells have a Mercedes part number and Star on them. If they do perhaps that would clear up the issue.

Arrow

Discs w/o notches are early version with p/n A108... (up to 09/1981).
Discs with notches are late version with p/n A126... (from 10/1981).

Possibly a place to allow expansion when using the brakes heavily.

That looks like the set on eBay. Steep at $1000 when you can have them done for $50 each.

My guess about the notches is they allow a channel for water go get out.
