What is this BIZARRE noise from?

(Updated June 13, 2019....Noise source found. It was the DASH CAM!)

1991 300d, 221k

I was driving along today when this weird noise started. It's happened before a time or two for just maybe 10 to 15 seconds here and there, but this time it kept doing it.

Pay no attention to the camera orientation; I was trying to record the noise before it went away and wasn't concerned with the camera view. After I disconnected the battery, the sound stopped. Possibly from the aftermarket Sony radio? Could the climate control be making such noises? Could it be from the hvac fan motor? (ac and blower motor were working fine). Very bizarre. I called Crutchfield to ask if it could be from the radio. He said it sounded like a cd skipping or stuck in the player but there's no cd in there.

You should be able to watch this via this link which will only be available for a few weeks (link now edited)......

Unplug aftermarket stuff or remove fuses until you find the source of the noise. I'd be suspicious of the radio.

If I remove the fuse, it runs about 8 different things. Dash cam, radio, rear headrests, and a bunch of other things. But it might narrow things down some. I'll have to wait for the noise to come back again.

Anti-Theft sound from the after market radio. My dad's old SD had one that did that if power was improperly disconnected from it.

It was the DASH CAM!

I can't believe it. Turns out it was the dash cam. It was hard to tell where the sound was coming from because it sounded like it was coming from out of the vents. The dash cam being on the windshield and behind the mirror made it hard to hear where the sound was coming from.

Problem solved!
