That looks great! My only concern is that the air filter looks awfully small. I know there is a very limited space in which to place one. I imagine it probably make the turbocharger more audible?

Yes, turbo noise is a little louder but not obnoxious. The filter is this one: https://www.amazon.com/AEM-21-2036DK-Universal-DryFlow-Clamp/dp/B00GBQ741K

I can't detect any loss of performance, in fact it feels more responsive... maybe because I got rid of that bottleneck u-tube. The stock system requires incoming air to go through a convoluted path. Or maybe what I feel is placebo effect, who knows.

This is a temporary setup until I decide whether I want to put back on the original air cleaner, or relocate battery and run a larger truck airbox in the battery location.

I had to get a cheap cone filter setup when I got my car, the original air filter was gone and something off another car was plumbed into place and had a big hole in it allowing unfiltered air to the engine.

the cheap cone filter had plenty of airflow and great throttle response, but I didn't like the fact that I could see through the filter if I held it up to the sun.
It also whistled and sounded like I had a turbo.

I bought a Dorman 258-506 Air Filter Box for a 3.8litre and installed a WIX filter in it.
I had to cut the airbox in half (depth) to make it fit. but it works and fits great.
Throttle response is slightly reduced compared to the cone filter, but my engine is getting CLEAN air!

I like the air filter setup. Won't work in my w116 chassis though unless I relocate battery to trunk (I'm leaning more towards this)

The wiring and wire nuts are a little scary though...

Did you use the 2.25" Mishimoto coupler at the turbo body or the 2.5"?

Ok I bought these. I finally got sick and tired of replacing the buffers after they broke. They never seem to last more than a year. And my engine is pretty smooth too. It wastes so much time changing these things and when the knocking starts under the hood it’s stressful because I don’t know what it is till I get the car home.

So here they are. 4403K84 from McMaster Carr. $38 shipped to my door. Ouch…much more expensive than the Febi, URO, CRP or MTC which don’t last at all. Less expensive than the Mercedes
OEM at $24 each.

Time to try these out. I’ll report back when they break. They appear to be a very nice silicone rubber. At $13 each I hope they last. Even at 3x the price of the shoddy ones they’ll be worth it if they last 3x as long. Because it wastes time to replace them.

At McMaster Carr I found some "Extreme-Temperature Vibration-Damping Sandwich Mounts with Stud, Orange, M6 x 1mm Thread, 90 lbs. Capacity".
The part number is 4403K84.
Specs are;
Capacity per Mount 90 lbs.
Shear Capacity per Mount 30 lbs.
Hardness Durometer 70A
Material Orange Silicone Rubber
Stud Material Zinc-Plated Steel
Temperature Range -80° to 300° F
Country of Origin United States
$6.46 Each!!!

These are the Cats Ass!
Year and a half no problem, just make sure the air cleaner drops cleanly onto the studs.
URO, please take note and strive for this American quality.

You get well soon Nate. Stay out of the heat, it’s brutal this week. I’m putting off installing the buffers after few days due to the heat. It’s 90 degrees in my garage.

Good Buffers

Ykobayashi, Those silicone mounts have held up 5 years so far. Make sure the air cleaner drops straight down onto the buffer's studs, no side load whatsoever. I see they are now double the price from 5 years ago, my pay has not doubled!

I would looooove temps 17 degrees cooler than where I am here in the hellscape of Arizona. Thirteen years in this endless summer nightmare, I can’t wait to escape someday.

Post Summer Time Blues

I hear you about HOTazona ! .

I love visiting there but not so much staying .

It's blistering in La La Land right now, 107 in Pasadena where I have no AC .

My big brother and I went to lunch in Torrance, the restaurant had nice AC even if set to 79* .
