Swapping oil filter between oil changes
I've been using Rotella T5 for a couple of changes on my 300SDL. I'm at 3700 since the last change now, need to head north for a family issue soon, about 1500 miles. I've heard of swapping the filter early to get more life out of an oil change.
Any thoughts on the usefulness or otherwise of that?

I would go 10k on my oil and swap filters at 5k on several 617s. Modern oils for the win. Top loader filter design on that engine for the win

I sent a sample from my 00 Cummins in to Blackstone for an analysis. They said everything looked great and to run mileage up to 15,000 mi which usually gets me a year. I haven't sent a MBZ sample so don't have data on the SD but wouldn't worry about going your distance on full synthetic.
Someone else can comment on your specific engine if they have data.

I run T6 in my SD and don't change it before 5K miles. The 603 isn't a high soot engine, leave it be and change when you get back. It'll be fine. The filter won't be loaded with soot anyway.

Great, good advice. I was thinking 5K on semi synthetic would be OK. I'm guessing T6 is full synthetic.
