FYI - 240d reverse backup light switch fix
My 1982 240d reverse lights stopped working.
I pulled the center console and used a small piece and taped it on the plate on the shifter that pushing in the rod on the reverse light switch. Anyone else have a better hack? I'm sure there's to much play on the shifter since the car has 375k miles. Might help someone. -pete |

I don't know how that works but maybe zip ties and/or shrink tubing and/or silicone tape?

It actually worked well for about 2 hours but then I pushed the shifter a little to hard into reverse and the switch popped out of it's plastic holder/bracket.
I ended up carefully taking the switch apart with some tiny screw drivers. I cleaned it up and put it back together and it works like new. It reminds me a little of the electric window switches in the center console of the w123's. pete |
