Parts to save from old-ish OM603

Regular readers of my column probably recall that I was considering getting a nice low miles 603 installed in my 300SDL. I know it was partly dumb but I did it anyway.

My buddy is holding the old motor for a while for me to take parts off of it that I might want. I’m not sure what would be good to grab. The injectors I’m guessing, but beyond that I’d just be guessing.

Head complete, cam etc. intake manifold, injectors, injection pump, vac pump if updated design. I would also grab tge front main hub and balancer. The hubs from MB are NLA.....all injector hard lines, SLS pwr steering pump

I already took off the injection pump and sold it to a forum member for what it’s worth. I didn’t think I would have time to do anything with it myself. Then my plans changed. Oh well.

It's not that easy to find unbroken oilpans either, and they are easy to smash in a w126.

Injection pump is the single most valuable component on the engine

Good call, I never would’ve thought about the oil pan. When I took off the injection pump and sold it, I thought I was done the car and wouldn’t have another for God knows how long. Oh well.

Post OM603 Oil Pans

They're alloy and rather easy to crack or break .

My brother's been whacking them on speed bumps etc. in town no less, some times I can get it welded up, others not .

Right now we don't have a spare .
