The Gray Ghost Is Dead '87 300SDL
I think I mentioned my brother's very good running 300SDL OM603 got center punched and will soon be junked .
We put a # 18 head on it a year or two ago, new cam followers and so on . The rest of the car is decent, I suppose you could put cardboard in the right rear window and replace the R.R. tire & wheel and drive it.... Seems a shame to scrap it but he has a dead hearse and truck so no more space to store junk . The car is currently stored in the San Gabriel Valley on So. Cal. .

We drove that car across America several times, the AC still blows ice cold... He still has his battered 1981 300SD, it looks pretty nasty (he never washes his vehicles) but it seems to run O.K. ~ of late it drains the battery in a few days unless he yanks the ground cable off .

Had a friend who bought 1st new car back in 60's. Chose a SAAB 96 over VW beetle. Dealer asked what color? Says "Dirt Color" cause I'll never wash it. Ended up choosing kind of slate metallic. Which really did not look that different dirty or clean. Don

I can did it, I'll never understand those folks .
Of course, his engines are coated in oil then he expects me to cheerfully service or repair them when they inevitably die 2,500 miles from home....

Thanx for the interest guys, my brother flat refused to set a price and only one person bothered to try and talk to him, said they weren't really interested so he sold it for scrap value, less than $350 to my buddy the M-B Mechanic for parts .
I'd hoped to get it into better hands as it was still a great running car . Sigh .
