curious about the silicon levels - I just checked and am able to kill the motor by running it and putting my hand over the intake so I presume there are no intake air leaks.
edit - just remembered I recently replaced a torn crank case breather hose.

Not a good test. One would not expect an intake manifold leak to be large enough to run the engine on.
One of the tests would be to with the engine cold start the engine and spray something you know will burn inside of the engine like Carburetor cleaner starting fluid around the where the Intake Manifold joins the cylinder head. If the rpms go up you have a leak.
I don't know if WD-40 would work in this case. Gasoline would work if you used something like a turkey baster and flowed a minimum amount of gasoline around the joints but there is a safety issue.
You don't want the engine hot because the stuff could evaporate too fast.
If you don't believe the test will work due to a lock of intake manifold vacuum you can partially restrict the air filter intake and create some vacuum inside of the intake manifold.
