Removing W126 headlight assemblies....
To anyone who's swapped out headlights, how do you get access to the bottom two bolt, in order to remove the assembly?
I looked from underneath, but I'd need like an 18" extension to reach..... Do you remove the small lateral panels underneath the headlights(where the wipers are mounted)? Just thought I'd ask before I started ripping into it..... Thanks in advance,

Headlight bezel at least to 85 are held in by the white thumb wheels that are accessed with the hood up. Next there is a metal surround held in by 4 screws.

Take the turn signal lights out first, then the panel under the light. After that you can reach everything easily. Once you see it taken apart it is pretty easy to do again the next time.

Just watched the youtube video on replacing the headlight; those MB engineers in the '70's and '80's were geniuses. The Chevy stealership in Atlanta just charged my son $150 to replace the front blinker bulb on his Tahoe. When I looked at it on line, it recommended removing the entire front bumper to replace that bulb.
The MB engineers would have been outraged. |
