Dont know if this is tru for 1987 model but I can tell you for 1985 mode 123 300D turbo.

Auxillary fan is controlled by few things inits circuit.

1. Test the fan itself with external voltage to see if it not burnt. If its ok then following
2. Fuse controlling the auxillary fax check and replace( If in doubt)

3. Check the connectors to the fan.

4. Aux fan is also controlled by a switch near receiver dryer.
There you will find a pair of wire with connector on each. Clean and reattach these connections.

5. Auxillary fan relay its also called ICE CUBE REPLAY. Check for its location. ( Check the performance parts website for its location) It costs about 22 bucks.

I think this is pretty much it. Unless anyother member wants to add anything.

By the way does your AC work. And do you know that Aux fan comes on only when the temp of coolant reaches a certain point and usually during AC operation. May be your car cools good so there is no need for aux fan to kick in.

My gut feeling is if fan is not burnt and connections are good its the ice cube relay.
